Executive Committee

The Executive Committee or ‘Exec’ plays a very important part in the management of the Scout Group and is fundamental to the groups success.

What do we do?
The Exec has several responsibilities. These include…

  • Providing equipment
  • Ensuring that we are suitably insured
  • Raising funds for group and hut maintenance
  • Financial Administration
  • Assisting in the recruitment of leaders
  • Organising group / family social events

As 1st Buglawton Scout Group is a registered charity, all members of the Exec Committee are Trustees of the charity.

Who are we?
The ‘Executive’ committee is made up of people from all walks of life, who volunteer their time.  Scouting experience is not a requirement, we are open to all. Some examples of roles include:

  • Quartermaster – looks after our equipment to ensure we have everything we need
  • Health & Safety – helps manage our risk assessments for our activities
  • Social Event Organiser – it would be great to get together more
  • Fundraising – everything needs to be paid for and subs don’t cover everything!
  • Grant Applications – write of co-ordinate applications for funding.

Ideally there should be at least one parent from each section (beavers, cubs and scouts) on the Executive Committee. This means that we have a good spread of opinion and a reasonable number of volunteers who we can call upon from time to time. We very much believe that many hands make light work and that no one person should ever have to do too much!

Where and when do we meet?
We usually meets quarterly, on Monday evenings at 7.30pm – 9.00pm at the Church House Inn, Buglawton.

Committee meetings are very informal. We enjoy a few drinks, chat about Scouting and plan all the ways we can support the young people in their scouting adventure.

Can I Help?
Of course you can! The Exec Committee welcomes anyone who has an interest in helping the group. If you would like to be involved but don’t have the time to be a Leader/Helper then the Exec is a fantastic way of helping out the group with minimal time commitment.

If you would like to join us, please contact us.

What is the commitment?
We ask that you attend the quarterly meetings as often as you are able, activities can also be done from home.  You won’t be signing your life away!
